Social media content calendar for small business: a simple weekly template
Most small businesses don't stop posting because they run out of ideas. They stop because every post starts from zero: what do I write today, where is the photo, is it too late to post? A content calendar fixes that by deciding the answers once, ahead of time.
What a content calendar actually is
It is just a list of what you will post, on which day, and where. A spreadsheet, a notebook page or a printed table all work. The tool matters far less than the habit of filling it in before the week starts.
A simple weekly template
You don't need seven posts a week to look active. For a shop, salon, restaurant or local service, three to five posts is a realistic start. Give each day a job so you never face a blank page:
- Monday: a product, dish or service you want people to notice this week.
- Tuesday: a tip or short how-to related to what you sell.
- Wednesday: behind the scenes, such as your team, your workshop or how something is made.
- Thursday: a customer story or a photo of finished work, with permission.
- Friday: an offer, a reminder or a simple question that invites replies.
Skip a day if you have nothing good to say. A weaker post posted for the sake of it does not help.
Batch the work in one hour
- Pick one fixed hour each week, for example Sunday evening.
- Take or collect the photos you need for the whole week.
- Write all captions in one go, using your day themes as prompts.
- Adjust the wording slightly for each platform: shorter on Instagram, more professional on LinkedIn.
- Set the day and time for each post, then close the laptop.
Keep a small idea bank
Whenever a customer asks a question, note it down. Repeated questions make the best posts, because other people have the same doubt. Also save photos as you take them, so next week's calendar is half filled already.
Review once a month
Look at which posts got the most reactions, comments or messages. Do more of those themes and drop the ones nobody notices. Platform insights show this without any extra tools.
Scheduling the calendar
A calendar only helps if the posts actually go out. Rido Poster lets you schedule posts to Facebook Pages, Instagram and LinkedIn using their official connections, so a week of content can be set up in one sitting. If you also share in Facebook groups, the browser extension has an Auto-posting mode that posts up to 20 group posts a day, with pauses between them, and stops for 24 hours if Facebook shows a limit. Plans start at ₹49 a month.
